Trying to keep the home happy and rainbow like isn't always as easy as it sounds. It takes alot of work to keep the routine flowing & when your working on little or no sleep life looses it's rainbow a little. We've had a tough week at home, with Lil developing a fear of the night, shadows & sleep. That dreamy place we all need to visit to recharge our mind, body & soul.
It all began one arvo after school when Lil was relaxing her room, a magpie walked in the front door and up to her bedroom. At first she didn't notice, but as it flew around trying to get out the bird and the girl both became frightened. I was hanging washing at the time and only came in when I heard Sage screaming. He'd gone up to see what Lily was calling out about. Both were frightened, as was the bird, swooping and flying madly. I hurried the kids out of the room. Stell arrived home a couple of minutes later and freed the magpie.
Lily had been shaken; for many night she woke terrified in her room, seeing birds and other things in the shadows that weren't there. We tried everything to comfort her, after many nights of terror and no sleep she began staying up all night. Not good when there's school to attend. I packed away everything each night, all they toys and covered the big toy shelf with a pretty floral sheet. Really working on making the space clear and calm. After 5 nights she settled down and spent 3 good nights sleeping, then Sage started to have bad dreams too. Last night was the first night both kids sleep thorough in over 10 days, they pretty much slept on me, in my bed..but at least they slept!
Today we spent a nice day together making things and going to a local market. Followed by a lovely drive to a nearby Lake and an adventure on paddle bikes. Lots of outdoor playing and a little picnic. It felt good to be outside and not thinking about the onset of night.
Here's hoping tonight all will be well.. time for me to switch off too.
